| Course contents : | A few weeks are devoted to a general and intensive review of the main difficulties of German grammar (declensions, conjugations, syntax...). Following this, we will go through numerous translation exercises having to do with history, art history, philosophy, etc. |
| Course objective : | At the end of this course, students must be capable of translating a text of average difficulty. To achieve this objective, students must ensure they learn the specific basic vocabulary. |
| Prerequisites : | Participation in the course is difficult for students with no knowledge of German. We strongly recommend that any students with little knowledge of German should participate very actively from the beginning of the course. |
| Workshops : | One text and/or numerous sentences to be translated every week. |
| Organization : | Duration and period: 45 hours in the 1st and 2nd quadrimesters. Place and times: Tuesdays 12:00 to 13:30, Place Cockerill. See http://cipl82.philo.ulg.ac.be/horaires |
| Written notes : | Recommended basic grammar book: N. Schumacher/Bouillon: Guide de grammaire allemande. De Boeck 2002. Recommended dictionary: German-French / French-German: Grand dictionnaire allemand Hachette-Langenscheidt in one volume (220 000 words and expressions) 2004. A syllabus will be available to students at the beginning of the course. It will contain an introduction to German and a list of exercises to be done and texts to be translated in the course of the year. Remark: the detailed programme above is not exhaustive. During the year, modifications may be made depending on teaching requirements or materials (e.g.: work out of print). Additional information will be provided during the first class. |
