Course contents :  Before the courses of specific didactics centred on teaching/learning sequences of particular knowledges, this course of general didactics analyzes the facets of the role of the teacher in a more systematic perspective. Linked with seminars dedicated to the management of difficult situations in classrooms, the course develops a preventive approach of these situations.
Course objective :  More exactly, the course of general didactics should help to exercise the four main tasks of the teacher:
- to place his action in a team project and an educational system;
- to plan and to organize educational activities;
- to manage the class, to implement training situations, to seek and to regulate the interactions with the trainees;
- to estimate the effects of the instruction and to assess the progress of the pupils.
Prerequisites :  None.
Workshops :  Read "Organization".
Organization :  The organization of the course is based on the articulation of theory and practice within four training modalities:
* Theoretical courses, the objective is to elaborate a conceptual framework linked with educational researches and teaching practices. The theoretical course will begin with a statement of the questions that the participants are asking about their future didactic practices. This framework authorizes working hypotheses to test and to criticize.
* Observation training course, the objective is to observe the didactic interactions in a classroom. It will be exploited during the didactic exercises.
* Didactic exercises in multidisciplinary groups, the objectives are:
- to put the students in situation to learn, to teach (micro-teaching) and to assess;
- to confront different points of views on these situations and to modify representations. The didactic exercises end by analyses and conceptualizations of the didactic experiences.
* Reflexive practices, the objective is to allow the exchange, the analysis and the conceptualization of the situations met during the teaching practices.
Strong links between theory and practice are the result of real interactions between the students and the trainers. They are also based on an active participation of all both in the theoretical courses as in the didactic exercises and reflexive practices seminars. Presence in the theoretical courses and in seminars is compulsory.
Written notes :  Book: Mots de passe pour mieux enseigner (Passwords to teach better), C. Gauthier, J.-F. Desbiens, S Martineau, A. Presseau, Les Presses de l'Université de Laval, 2003.

Reading book: on sale in the Point of view (campus of Sart Tilman).
Assessment :  The evaluation concerns capacities to reflect about the teaching practice in link with the real educational contexts from:
- Concepts and educational suggestions supplied by the theoretical framework;
- Experiences from the teaching practices;
- Formatives activities based on the seminars.
According to these three sources of reflection, each one is brought to produce reflexive texts (according to precise instructions), and to build his "portfolio" of learning and professional development.
This portfolio has to give evidence of the evolution of the student in terms of understanding and exploitation of the didactical concepts, the questioning on his practice and his project of teacher.
Besides, certain objectives of the theoretical course are assessed with a standardized test.
