Analysis of Teaching Processes

Course contents : This lecture develops a descriptive and analytical research approach, not a methodological or prescriptive one. It is focussed on observation and analysis of actual classroom teaching and does not try to determine what the best practices are nor to influence them. The aim is to study as objectively as possible the teaching processes, to understand their rationale, to identify what factors impact on them and to measure their effects.
Course objective : · Introduce to the main scientific concepts of the analysis on teaching processes

· Take up a critical stance towards their prior knowledge about teaching

· Give a critical overview of the main research paradigms in the field of teaching processes


· Give the methodological basis for classroom observation
Prerequisites : None
Workshops : Use of grids for observing teacher-student interactions in classrooms Data coding, control of the reliability


Analysis of results

Write a short report
Organization : 13 sessions of about two hours
Written notes : Several documents and articles will be made available to the students.

Active participation of the students is required.
Assessment : A portfolio and a written examination.
