MATH0058-1

Mathematics for management engineers

Duration :60h Th, 30h Pr
Credits/ECTS :
1re année du grade de bachelier ingénieur de gestion8
Holder(s) :Jacques Bair
Course contents : The cursus has two parts.

Firstly, the linear algebra is studied : concepts of vectors and matrices, determinants, linear systems, eigenvalues and eigenvectors, quadratic forms. Some concrete applications are given.

Secondly, the infinitesimal theory is given, essentially for functions with one real variable, by using hyperreal numbers : the concepts of continuity, derivation and integration are presented, then theoretically studied et, after, applied to real problems of management.
Course objective : To learn to make and to use mathematical models.
Prerequisites : Elementary notions of algebra, geometry and trigonometry.
Workshops : - Practical exercises (little groups).

- Exrecices with computers
Organization : - Classical expositions for the theory.

- Individual and collective assistance for students.
Written notes : - Algèbre linéaire, by J. BAIR, Presses Universitaires de Liège.

- Exercices résolus d'algèbre linéaire, by G. HAESBROECK, Université de Liège.

- Analyse dans le cadre des nombres hyperréels, by J. BAIR and V. HENRY, Presses Universitaires de Liège.

- Mathématiques appliquées, by J. BAIR, Presses Universitaires de Liège.
Assessment : The final resul is an integer which is obtained by the arithmetical mean of the results obtaines in linear algebra and in infinitesimal analysis.
