Units courses prerequisite and corequisite

Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program

Learning unit contents

The course will address the pathogeny of lesions associated with infectious diseases, at the macroscopic, microscopic and molecular levels. It also reviews and details the methods used in pathology of infectious diseases.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

The aim of the course is to make the student familiar with the morphological and functional alterations (lesions) underlying infectious diseases. In particular, the emphasis will be put on the pathogeny of such diseases and on the methods used for their study and diagnosis. The anticipated learning outcome is the ability to summarize these concepts when facing a case.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

Courses of histology, anatomy, physiology, general and systemic pathology and infectiology given during the cursus of veterinary education.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course includes two parts:

  • The theoretical course (15h)
  • Practical exercises, in part in the laboratory, in part in the necropsy room
Practical exercises (15h) can be tailored according to the student's aim to focus on macroscopic (necropsy), microscopic (histopathology) or molecular (molecular biology) methods applied to the pathology of infectious diseases.

Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)

Face-to-face
