Learning unit contents
Philological analysis of various specific issues related to Latin texts, as well as to Latin diachronic and synchronic linguistics. The course will use all the resources of contemporary philology (computer and statistical tools, linguistic and stylistic approaches, etc.).
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
At the end of the course, students will have the methodological skills to analyze the specific philological issues discussed and will be familiar with the use of various research instruments in the fields of philology, linguistics and stylistics of Latin. They will also improve their knowledge of the language, their practice of version and theme, as well as their expertise in translation and philological commentary of Latin authors.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
Knowledge of Latin acquired at the end of the first year of the Master's degree in Ancient Languages and Literatures, classical orientation or in Ancient and Modern Languages and Literatures (Questions de Philologie latine I).
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
It will include personal work (including the reading of a literary Latin work as well as the reading and / or account of scientific paper) and could require the memorization of lexical lists and / or grammatical models. It will combine translations (themes and versions) with exercises on grammar, prosody, metrics, restitution of missing text and overall understanding of the meaning of a text ; as well as the personal reading of a Latin piece of work.
