Learning unit contents
This course, dedicated to the analysis of creation from 1960 until today, aims to explore the major artistic tendencies s of this period by focusing on:
- the artistic movements ofrom 1960 until today
- the current trends in the world of museum exhibitions ;
- fundamental notions and concepts such as "Postmodernity", "Institutional Criticism", "artification"...;
- major currents of thought such as Postcolonial Studies;
- the major changes in the "world" of contemporary art (globalization, institutionalization, the rise of fairs and biennials, new intermediaries of art, etc.)
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
Through the questions and subjects that it addresses, this course aims to provide students with training leading to a specialization in the field of the history of contemporary art.
By the end of this course, students will have acquired the knowledge essential for understanding and interpreting the major trends in international contemporary art.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
It is preferable that the student has already taken a general course on the history of twentieth century art.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Teaching methods
This course has the advantage and interest of involving several specialists and actors in the contemporary art world. In addition to the lessons given by the teacher, there are lectures by researchers, art world professionals and, wherever possible, artists.
By bringing in outside speakers, the aim is to provide a concrete opening onto research in contemporary art history and the realities of the field.

The course is given in the first term on Thursdays from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Salle du Conseil (Historical Sciences Department, top floor).
