Learning unit contents
Overview of artistic productions of the 15th and 16th centuries in Western Europe (important examples, chronological milestones) and contextualization. Introduction to the analysis of monuments and works, and to their interpretation from a historical perspective.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
Basic knowledge of the significant landmarks in Western European Art of the 15th and 16th centuries. Introduction to the analytical and interpretative methods of Art History. Learning of specific terminology.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
The essential skills are those generally required for studies in History of Art and Archaeology (visual memory, for example) and for studies in a Faculty of Philosophy and Letters (a critical mind and ease in argumentation, and for foreign students: a sufficient knowledge of the French language).

Recommended or required readings
No syllabus. The table of contents, list of artists mentioned and various useful pieces of information are available on the "suppports de cours" tab. Studying will also be based on the book mentioned above.
