Units courses prerequisite and corequisite

Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program

Learning unit contents

The lecture is centered on morphological effects of earthquakes and on the surface of volcanoes.

It covers various aspects of neotectonics, seismo-tectonics, seismology, tectonic geomorphology as well as the physics and geomorphology related to volcanic activity.

This lecture also includes an English evaluatoin.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

The goal is to understand the geological origin of earthquake and volcano hazards.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

Good knowledge of English and maths.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Analyses on maps, aerial and satellite imagery; microseismic measurements and data processing.
2 visits and seismic-seismological surveys in East Belgium, near BE-NL border.

Learning how to write a scientific report in English.

Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)

6 lectures of 3h,
2 sessions of 3h of exercices and data processing. 2 days of fieldwork, combined with ambient noise measurements

Report written in English and oral presentation (in English) about a topic related to the lecture (in neotectonics).

Additional information:

Oral Examination and presentaiton of project on a seismo-tectonic and/or volcanic region.
in January 2022, the exam might be organised via Lifesize and then be entirely oral. Though the presentation of the project in the classroom in December 2022 will be maintained.
