Learning unit contents
The objective of this course is to give basic knowledge on tropical ecosystems: phytogeography, origin, evolution, threats and management. It is divided in 4 chapters:
Chapter 1: Plant communities and latitudinal gradients
Chapter 2. Deforestation and forest degradation
Chapter 3. Sustainable management of tropical forests
Chapter 4. Agroforestry as a solution in highly anthropized areas?
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
After completing the course the student is expected to: . be able to describe the main vegetation types; . be able to identify the major threats; . be able to suggest adapted management.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
Basic knowledge on ecology and botany required.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)
Face-to-face and many discussions with students who have to share their experiences.

Additional information:
Oral examination: the student will have 15 minutes to present the ecosystem where he/she will perform his master thesis (main characteristics, anthrogenic impacts, management methods).Then he will be questioned for max. 15 minutes.
