Learning unit contents

The objective of the course is to give a vision of the impacts, mainly sanitary and environmental, that buildings can have on their immediate environment (indoor or outdoor).

It is based on the following elements: the notion of indoor air quality (pollution agents, health effects, pollution sources, evaluation approaches, regulations and labels); the notion of sustainable building standards; the study of environmental performance using life cycle analysis; the concepts of waste and water management.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

At the end of this course, the student will be able to consider the main environmental and health impacts of buildings. They will also be able to identify the items that are the source of critical impacts in an existing building. They will have acquired the skills to carry out an environmental performance study.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course is divided into two main parts, lectures and practical work. The latter is divided into two parts: the study of environmental performance indicators and an analysis of the life cycle of a building, situation before and after an optimisation of the energy and environmental performance.
