The goal of this course is to provide the students with an overview of the regulatory framework of Sustainable Finance.

More generally, the course content should be:

- The EU Sustainable Finance Action Plan: the EU taxonomy, the Sustainable Finance disclosure regulation, the Corporate Sustainable Reporting Directive, future changes to AIFMD, MIFID II, UCITS directives, Solvency II, ...

- Carbon regulation: carbon taxes and carbon markets (functioning of the EU emissions trading system)

Class participation will be 30% of your grade. Class participation is important for an engaged and energetic classroom, for each of you to advance your understanding of the topics, and to practice constructive dialogue which will be critical for your career. You will be assessed on the following:

  • Relevance of your answer (cold calling)
  • woodclap tests on pre-reading material
  • attendance and attention,
  • the quality and quantity of comments,
  • the ability to advance the conversation,
  • the ability to challenge others in a constructive manner (e.g. "disagree without being disagreeable")
  • authenticity (e.g. comfort in saying "I am not sure, yet will offer this point")
  • and, for asking questions to advance understanding.
There will be one team project throughout the semester and you will be assigned teams of two students. There will be special office hours designed as interim reviews with Pierre- Henri. student teams will hand in a 2-3 page document addressing the assigned 'key questions' as well as a PowerPoint presentation that will be presented by the team in class #5. Team project will be assessed on the following criteria:

  • the quality of the interim review and improvement to final presentation
  • the content of addressing the assigned questions
  • the crispness and robustness of thought
  • and, the articulation of information and points in the presentation by both team members.
The final exam will take place in person on November 19th 2022. It will be closed book and will be 1h30 long.
