Learning unit contents
This 10-credit module is run in collaboration with teaching partners from the universities of applied sciences.
The aim of this course will be to explore and work on socially pressing issues (SPIs) to be discussed with pupils, in order to help them establish themselves as citizens in the Anthropocene era.
What is a topical issue? Why is it topical, and how can teachers engage with it? How can we educate pupils to be active citizens in the Anthropocene era? How can we develop their critical and creative thinking in science and about science?
More detailed information on the course content will be provided on eCampus.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
- To learn how to address and work with pupils on socially sensitive issues
- To learn how to lead a reasoned debate with pupils
- To define one's stance as a teacher in relation to these topics, which are not yet firmly established, scientifically speaking, either in schools or in society
- To ensure that one's teaching practice in the classroom is consistent with the research literature on didactics when addressing these ambiguous concepts
- Develop tools to address these concepts, test them and reflect on one's own practice
- Test and assess the educational value of a teaching resource (whether commercial or not) for teaching concepts related to the development of a citizen who is both a scientist and socially engaged in the Anthropocene era
