Learning unit contents
Course Description
The student will work around a question in relation to his PhD topic through critical exploration of recent advancements in equine internal medicine, anaesthesia, surgery, orthopaedics, imaging or reproduction, with a strong emphasis on translational science, precision diagnostics, and evidence-based interventions. The topic will be defined at the beginning of the course and a teacher will be assigned accordingly. The course empowers doctoral students to interpret, apply, and evaluate novel diagnostic tools, pharmacological innovations, and personalized care strategies for equine patients in the chosen context. A major focus is placed on integrating research findings into clinical reasoning and on evaluating the scientific basis and therapeutic outcomes of advanced interventions in real-world practice.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
By the end of this course, students will be able to:
- Critically evaluate and integrate recent advances in equine medicine and therapeutics and analyze pathophysiological models underlying the topic in question. Understand state-of-the-art diagnostic techniques (e.g. biomarker profiling, imaging, molecular diagnostics, ...).
- Design and assess research protocols in relation to the chosen topic
- Engage in scholarly critique and interdisciplinary dialogue. Review and critique peer-reviewed literature on equine therapeutics and diagnostics.
- Present and discuss the chosen topic in an academic forum with attention to translational relevance. Collaborate with researchers and clinicians to bridge the gap between experimental and applied equine medicine.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
Doctoral students (PhD candidates or EBVS residents) in equine veterinary medicine seeking to deepen their clinical and research proficiency in innovative equine therapeutics
