Learning unit contents
Practical Placement 2 must be completed in upper-secondary physics classes, for a total of 40 hours. In addition, as part of this Placement 2, students are required to carry out various additional tasks within the school. Further details will be provided during the course.
These placements are accompanied by AFP (Ateliers de Formation Professionnelle - professional training workshops) designed to develop students' reflective posture before, during, and after the placement. Attendance at AFP is compulsory. Except in cases of force majeure as judged by the course coordinators, two absences (justified or not) result in an absence grade for the AFP component.
Students are expected to keep a reflective logbook throughout the placement to record classroom difficulties of any kind. This logbook underpins the student's reflective work. Students are also asked to maintain an organised folder containing all lesson plans, handouts provided to pupils, and the administrative documents related to the placement (host-teacher form, agreement, host-teacher reimbursement form, etc.).
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
By the end of the unit, students will be able to:
- prepare a lesson (define objectives, align with referentials/curricula, specify roles/tasks, timing);
- deliver a lesson in class, mobilising approaches adapted to context;
- analyse their practice and argue improvement avenues using observable evidence (logbook, classroom traces, feedback).
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
Students must demonstrate a good command of general physics concepts relevant to upper-secondary teaching.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The preparatory, support and reflective practice activities (AFP) are directly linked to the teaching placements. These activities are organised exclusively in person, and student attendance is mandatory. Except in cases of force majeure, as determined by the course coordinators, two absences (whether justified or not) will result in the student being recorded as absent for the AFP component.
The reflective journal will be the central tool used for reflective practice. It is therefore essential that students complete it thoroughly and carefully.
The exact schedule for each teaching placement must be communicated via the platform set up by the CeFEn and by email, following a procedure explained during the AFP sessions. Any changes made during the placement must be recorded on the platform and also communicated by email to the three course supervisors (see contact list below).
Students are expected to diversify their teaching placements (year groups, types of education, etc.).

Summative joint assessment by the course supervisors and the host teacher, based in particular on:
- the quality of lesson plans;
- the implementation observed during visits;
- the post-placement report;
- the reflective posture developed in AFP and throughout the submitted documents.
Practical details (required documents, deadlines, organisation) are communicated in class and via institutional tools.
Each placement report must be uploaded to the DOX shared folder accessible to the student and the three supervisors by the stated deadline. Failure to meet the deadline may result in a grade of zero.
Students are expected to be fully committed to preparing their lessons and carrying out the activities assigned to them. Each student teacher must formally undertake, in writing, to respect the host institution, the placement supervisor and the pupils, both ethically and pedagogically. Any failure to comply with these commitments may result in the termination of the teaching placement.
Work placement(s)
Teaching Placement 2 is carried out in an upper-secondary physics class for a total of 40 hours. The placement hours and any subsequent changes must be recorded on the CeFEn platform and communicated by email to the course supervisors. Student teachers will also be required to carry out additional tasks as part of the placement.
Supervision by the General Didactics team may take two forms: an in-person classroom visit or an analysis of the lesson based on a video recorded by the student. At the end of the placement, students must submit a self-evaluation report. A document with precise information will be provided on eCampus.
Organisational remarks and main changes to the course
Documents (lesson plans, materials, logbook, etc.) are deposited in the shared DOX space communicated in class.
Encoding of hours and placement changes is done via the university's official platform. Any change-especially last-minute changes-must also be emailed to the three course supervisors.
One AFP session will be devoted to auto-heteroscopy (video-based self/peer analysis). Students must therefore record a lesson video during their placement and obtain the necessary authorisations. Detailed instructions will be provided on eCampus.
