Organisation and examination
All year long, with partial in January
If a student fails an examination during the first term:
- They are permitted to resit the assessed subject during the second term (May-June);
Schedule
Units courses prerequisite and corequisite
Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program
Learning unit contents
The "Success Support" sessions are optional but can be very beneficial for students who attend them regularly.They are directly linked to the General Chemistry teachings of Prof. Loïc Quinton CHIM0748.
These sessions are taught by teaching assistants who are familiar with the challenges faced by first-year bachelor's students, as they are also secondary school teachers.
Ten face-to-face sessions are organized during the first semester. They are listed in the Celcat timetable. They allow students to review basic concepts, ask questions, and learn to solve exercises in detail and in depth (from simple basic exercises to exam-style exercises, open-ended questions, and multiple-choice questions) to ensure a good understanding of the material.
For students who did not pass the exam in January, 10 additional sessions are also held in the second semester.
During these sessions, assistants will be able to:
- solve exercises WITH students, step by step, providing explanations and answers tailored to all questions
- review and refine theoretical concepts
- answer your questions about the course and the tutorial exercises

Learning outcomes of the learning unit
The fundamental concepts of the first 4-5 SR files, most of which were covered in secondary school, are often wrongly assumed to be acquired by many students who don't bother to refresh their knowledge and regret it later. Indeed, these concepts are implicitly used in all chapters of the course.
We strongly suggest that you review these first 4 files before the first Success Support session, while you're still under pressure, and that you complete the exercises so that you can note any questions you may have. Files with exercise solutions are available for SRs 1 to 4.
By combining this success assistance with the various lessons related to the CHIM0748 course and with serious and consistent work, students who have participated in the sessions should be able to:
- Fill in the gaps accumulated over the past few years,
- Correct deep-rooted misunderstandings,
- Understand and correctly use basic chemistry vocabulary;
- Identify, balance, and analyze chemical reactions, whether complete or subject to equilibrium;
- Understand different models describing atomic and molecular structures in order to analyze and explain various macroscopic observations;
- Analyze and solve a chemical problem.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
In each session, it will be assumed that the student has very basic notions of chemistry and in particular, that he knows the foundations of atomic and molecular theory.
These notions will nevertheless be reviewed during the first sessions of the teaching.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Success support sessions are organized in groups that stimulate discussion with teaching assistants and other students to promote student progress and understanding.
Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)
Face-to-face course
Further information:
Teaching will be conducted exclusively in-person, although interactive learning methods will play a significant role in the activities offered to students.
An interactive online platform will also be available on eCampus/ULTRA, providing students with all the learning tools they need to participate in the sessions.
Links with capsules from the MOOC Chimie will very often be made to allow students to watch short reminder videos before the sessions and thus optimize their learning.
Course materials and recommended or required readings
Platform(s) used for course materials:
- eCampus
Further information:
All the necessary teaching materials for success in the course will be made available to students online via eCampus/ULTRA.
It is strongly advised to enroll and follow the activities of the MOOC « Chimie : ouvrez les portes de l'enseignement supérieur » available for free on FunMOOC (https://www.fun-mooc.fr/fr/).
