Schedule
Units courses prerequisite and corequisite
Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program
Learning unit contents
Preparation of a literature review addressing a clearly defined agroecological question. The work consists of an in-depth and critical synthesis of the scientific literature, aimed at establishing the state of knowledge, developing the research problem, and identifying key scientific issues and knowledge gaps.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
At the end of the learning unit, students will be able to: formulate and position an agroecological question; search for, select and critically use relevant scientific literature; produce a structured synthesis of current knowledge; identify scientific issues and knowledge gaps; communicate the results of a scientific review to a non-specialist audience.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
Previous completion of a research-oriented Master's thesis or equivalent research project. Degree in bioscience engineering or equivalent. The selected topic must be related to agriculture or food systems.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Independent work carried out under the supervision of a supervisor and, where appropriate, a co-supervisor. Critical and structured analysis of scientific and grey literature. Exploratory interviews may optionally complement the literature review. Final presentation in the form of a 20-to-30-minute outreach-oriented scientific conference.
Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)

Further information:
Assessment by a four-member jury including representatives of the partner institutions of the Master programme. Assessment comprises two components: the written manuscript and the oral presentation. Written work is assessed on clarity, structure, scientific quality, ability to position an agroecological question, and appropriate use of the literature. The oral presentation is assessed on clarity, pedagogy and ability to communicate science to a non-specialist audience.

Organisational remarks and main changes to the course
The manuscript is limited to 30 pages, font size 12 and 1.5 line spacing. Only one examination session is organised. The manuscript must be submitted on the first day of the examination session. The oral defence may take place face-to-face or remotely (only for jury members).
