Microtraumatic injuries: peripheral nerve injuries
A single two-hour lecture
The course will focus on integrating concepts from neurology (anatomy, physiology, pathology, etc.) as they relate to radicular and truncular testing
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
Microtraumatic injuries: peripheral nerve injuries
Prepare students to understand sensorimotor assessments and to differentiate between radicular and peripheral nerve sensorimotor assessments.
By the end of this course, students will be able to:
- identify, in a given patient, the historical and clinical findings that may suggest a radicular or peripheral nerve lesion;
- analyze the historical and clinical findings in order to formulate a hypothesis of a radicular or peripheral nerve lesion.

Any material relating to the musculoskeletal system, peripheral nerves, and the nervous system (spinal cord and its segmental organization with the spinal nerves) that has already been covered during the students' studies may be used as a basis.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Microtraumatic injuries: peripheral nerve injuries
a two-hour practical session in the lecture theatre, based on two clinical cases.
A brief explanation of each case will be provided to all students, followed by small-group work supervised by several clinical instructors.
