Learning unit contents
This seminar aims to deepen your understanding of the professional context of sustainability transitions and to provide you with real-world experience, equipping you with the skills you will need throughout your careers: actively seeking out relevant information and experts, building a useful and lasting network, and organizing high-quality professional events.
A range of activities are included in the seminar:
(1) Field visits: You will visit both public and private organizations, gaining firsthand insights into how different entities manage and adapt to transitions within their sectors. These visits will offer a practical perspective on the operational and strategic responses of various organizations.
(2) Conferences with guest keynote speakers: In collaboration with the ULiège Laboratoire des Transitions conference program, you will engage with experts who will share their expertise on socio-ecological transitions and other pertinent subjects. These keynote speakers will provide a broader view of the challenges and opportunities that organizations face in the context of transition.
(3) Workshops: You will participate in workshops to help you acquire skills for effective networking and professional event organisation.
(3) Mandatory external activities: You will be required to take part in external activities dealing with transition challenges and tailored to your interests and professional aspirations. These activities will offer practical experiences and valuable networking opportunities, further enriching your understanding of the professional landscape.
This seminar naturally aligns with the "Contributing to Transitions" track of the program (developing interpersonal and leadership skills) while also enriching the other two tracks (networking with organizations, which is useful for the master thesis in the "Doing Transition" track).
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
Upon completion of the seminar, you will be able to:
- Analyze and contextualize transition challenges through the perspectives of practitioners and experts from diverse sectors;
- Build and maintain a relevant professional network for your career goals (identifying key contacts, preparing for and conducting networking conversations, and follow up);
- Design and manage a professional event from start to finish (identifying and inviting speakers, logistics, communication, and facilitation);
