Units courses prerequisite and corequisite

Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program

Learning unit contents

This course provides an introduction to the principles of thermodynamics by understanding its fundamental concepts. It introduces and identifies the key variables required to describe and analyse thermodynamic systems. Particular attention is given to linking fundamental thermodynamic concepts to environmental issues, highlighting their relevance to the understanding of environmental phenomena and systems.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

By the end of the course, students will be able to:

  • identify and explain the main concepts and fundamental principles of thermodynamics;
  • identify the key thermodynamic variables required to describe a system and explain their physical meaning;
  • qualitatively describe energy exchanges and transformations within a system and with its surroundings;
  • apply thermodynamic principles to interpret environmental phenomena.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

None

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course will include theoretical lectures and practical exercises. Students will work in groups. The number of students per group will be determined later.

Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)

Face-to-face course

Further information:

The course is delivered exclusively in person, with alternating sessions in French and English.
