Learning unit contents
This course covers all areas of forensic medicine: crime scene investigation, external examination of bodies and post-mortem examination, in all typical scenarios: deaths caused by firearms, asphyxiation, blunt force trauma, stab wounds, and puncture wounds, as well as lacerations.
Within this framework, the course traces the history of modern forensic science, having clearly defined the subject and reviewed the fundamental concepts of cell biology and chemistry.
These concepts then pave the way for an exploration of photography, fingerprint analysis, toxicology and DNA, which form the foundations of forensic science.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
Know how to conduct oneself in a scientifically sound manner at a crime scene.
Have sufficient knowledge to read and understand a post-mortem report or a forensic report.
