Learning unit contents

The physiological part of the course presents the mechanisms controling the homeostasis in the animal kingdom. The course will begin by reviewing basic cellular et molecular mechanisms involved in cell physiology and cell interactions (using neurons and contractile cells as models). The basis of the physiology will be described in Mammals and compared to others physological mechanisms observed in other species (including Invertebrates). For example, we will discuss the principle of respiration in the air or in the water, the mechanisms of excretion, of osmotic regulation, the cardiovascular system, the nervous system, the endocrine system, ...

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

By the end of the physiological part of the course, the students will have learnt the bases of animal physiology et various strategies seen in the animal kingdom to adapt to some physical or chemical stresses occuring in the environment.

Practical course in animal physiology will be given following almost each theorical course. 

Interaction during the theorical and practical courses needs access to a laptop.

The test is scheduled after the October break. the following topics will be part of the test:

  • Cell physiology
  • The nervous systems and sense organs
Each part will be evaluated.

Note obtained on validated part (10/20 or more) wil be carried over for the overall evaluation.

 The overall note is the sum of notes on cell physiology (20%), on the nervous systems end sense organs (20%) and on the remaining topics of the course (60%)
