This course consists of:
- practicing around complex structures of modern Chinese syntax (concepts covered by HSK level III and IV exams);
- Translation work (versions) from a corpus of texts selected by the teacher;
- discussions around the texts translated by the students;
- Grammar texts and exercises (Chinese syntax) will be distributed to students by the teacher and will be made available on ECampus
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
This course aims to:
- Reinforce students' mastery of the complex structures of modern Chinese language syntax;
- Develop students' reading comprehension and translation skills;
- Consolidate students' aptitudes to argue around specific themes.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
Students ought to have attended at least 180h of modern Chinese language
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The following activities are organized:
- Exercises around the complex structures of Chinese syntax (home preparation and deposit on the ECampus platform);
- Preparation of readings by students;
- Preparation of HSK exercises by students.

Students will be assessed according to the following criteria:
- mastery of the complex structures of modern Chinese syntax;
- ability to understand and translate contents of intermediate level of difficulty into modern Chinese, as well as the ability to discuss these contents.
The grading for this course is broken down as follows: 40% for the written exam, 40% for the oral exam, and 20% for practical assignments and active participation.
Students will be assessed based on the following criteria:
- mastery of the complex syntactic structures of modern Chinese;
- ability to understand and translate intermediate-level texts in modern Chinese and ability to construct arguments based on these texts.
