Learning unit contents
The course starts with the critique of Marx and the tradition of thought that approaches capitalism as a system. Throughout the sessions, it proposes new avenues for studying contemporary economic dynamics from below. These research avenues build upon anthropological studies on labour, capital, property, markets, and the social life of commodities.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
The aim of the course is to lay the ground for an anthropology of capitalism. At the end of the course students will be able to present how capitalism has been studied by anthropologists, and propose research directions for analyzing the dynamics of capitalism from an anthropological perspective.

Each session requires students to present readings or small research assignments. The professor then builds upon these presentations and discussions to develop the course.
