Learning unit contents
The preparatory research work (TPR) is the first stage of the thesis and its main objective is to prepare for the actual completion of this work. As part of this work, students develop their thesis project under the supervision of a supervisor. Depending on the case, they may contribute to research conducted by the supervisor or develop a personal research project with their supervisor. The TPR is a mandatory prerequisite for the thesis.is.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
- Formulate a research question that is sufficiently precise and assess its relevance;
- Consult and summarize the literature related to the topic;
- Formulate research hypotheses;
- Propose a draft methodology;
- Identify the types of data to be collected and how they will be processed;
- Assess the feasibility (including ethical considerations) of the research.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Meetings with the advisor and/or supervisor will help students define their research questions, develop hypotheses, and determine their methodology.
Students must participate in a series of seminars focusing on aspects common to all theses in the faculty, such as the scientific approach, documentary research, critical reading of articles, written and scientific writing, the formulation of objectives, hypotheses, and research questions, key methodological principles, the submission of an ethical approval application, etc. Organizational details will be provided during the first seminar. Note: seminars are mandatory. However, students who wish to do so may submit a request to their supervisor for exemption from the mandatory seminars of the thesis support program, providing justification for their request.
PLEASE NOTE: Students remain responsible for developing their research question and specific methodology for their thesis, as well as setting deadlines for their work, under the supervision of their advisor.
Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)

Written work / report
Further information:
The assessment will be based on a written assignment as specified in the Research Preparation Work regulations. This research preparation work (TPR) is graded by the supervisor in the first or second session. A grade of 10/20 or higher is automatically awarded and the credits associated with the research preparation work (TPR) are therefore earned.
The supervisor may, on an optional basis, organize an interview with the student to ask them about certain aspects of their work. This exchange, if it takes place, is an integral part of the assessment, in the same way as the written work.
Comments on spelling: Proficiency in the French language is one of the basic skills required for professional practice in speech therapy. As such, if the file/work/report submitted contains more than 5 spelling mistakes (in usage and/or agreement), it will result in a failing grade (5/20) in the first session and must be resubmitted in the second session. If the file/work/report submitted in the second session contains more than 5 spelling mistakes, the student will have 2 points deducted from their course grade (/20).
