Observation internship and professional training workshop
As part of the observation internship (OI), students will be required to carry out three types of activities.
- Attend an information evening (presentation of OI guidelines + awareness-raising on vocational education with external guests).
- Complete two half-days of observation in secondary schools, one in transitional education and the other in vocational education. For the half-day in transitional education, students will follow a class of pupils for half a day. For the half-day in vocational education, two options will be proposed and explained during the first multidisciplinary AFP session. During these half-day observation sessions, students will also be invited to interview an experienced teacher and conduct a brief survey of the pupils.
- Participate in an OI evaluation session.
Teaching internship A and professional training workshop
Teaching placements are essential steps in the gradual acquisition of professional teaching skills. These training periods also offer students the opportunity to discover different types of teaching, different pedagogical approaches and a variety of upper secondary school audiences.
Students must be fully committed to preparing lessons and carrying out the activities assigned to them. Trainees undertake, in writing, to respect the institution, their supervising teacher and the pupils, both morally and pedagogically. Any breach of these commitments may result in the internship being terminated.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit
Observation internship and professional training workshop
Take an initial reflective look at the teaching profession based on observations made and information gathered from the various stakeholders interviewed.
Teaching internship A and professional training workshop
At the end of this internship, future graduates will be expected to have acquired the basic professional skills that will be supplemented by the Part II internships. For example, students will be able to plan an internship, prepare a complete lesson, deliver the course, reflect on their practice with a view to improving it, and set personal goals for the rest of their practice.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills
Observation internship and professional training workshop
None.
Teaching internship A and professional training workshop
Active participation in the theoretical course (ZENS0125).
A good knowledge of the basic discipline (chemistry) (level equivalent to a bachelor's degree in chemistry) is indispensible.
Teaching internship B and professional training workshop
Active participation in the theoretical course (ZENS0125).
A good knowledge of the basic discipline (chemistry) (level equivalent to a bachelor's degree in chemistry) is indispensible.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Observation internship and professional training workshop
Two face-to-face sessions: information session (2 hours) and observation internship operation session (3 hours) in the form of small multidisciplinary group work.
Teaching internship A and professional training workshop
During the subject-specific teaching methodology classes (ZENS0125), students participate in the development of teaching sequences for their teaching placements, taking into account the requests and topics chosen.
The Wednesday sessions of the ZENS0125 course, devoted to subject-specific teaching, provide an opportunity to address the essential aspects of the active teaching placement and to link theory with classroom practice.
During the teaching placement, the placement supervisor supports the student in developing their professional practice. The teaching specialists meet with this placement supervisor during assessment visits, when they review progress with the student and the supervisor.
Organised into subject-specific or interdisciplinary groups, the AFPs aim to develop students' reflective skills before, during and after a teaching placement.

Continuous assessment
Further information:
- The observation internship (OI) assessment is of the type 'Completed' or 'Not completed'. It will not result in a mark.
- If the OI is 'Not completed', it will prevent the student from obtaining a mark for the 'Partim 1 Internship' course.
- Participate in the OI evaluation session (see 'Continuous assessment')
- Prove that you have completed the OI by providing certificates for the two half-days of observation (see 'Other above')

Further information:
During the placements, students will benefit from a visit from the teaching team associated with this course. The purpose of these visits is to understand the working environment, the difficulties and advantages, as well as progress in the teaching profession (building professional identity). Depending on availability and after the observed lesson, students will have the opportunity to discuss any difficulties or questions with the assessor, in the presence of the internship supervisor if possible. The minimum internship requirements will be available on eCampus.
Each student will be required to submit a portfolio. The details will be specified during the ZENS0125 course. This will include, for example: planning with the topics and methodologies worked on, preparations for each internship period, and a retrospective analysis of each lesson taught. These records will also be used during the reflective AFPs after the internships.
The grade for this internship A will be based on the grades given by the course teaching team during their visit and the assessment of the internship supervisor.
Participation in the AFPs is compulsory. Except in cases of force majeure assessed by the course leaders, two absences (justified or not) will result in a grade of absence for the AFPs.
There will be no second session for the placements, and a mark below 10/20 may result in the student being deferred for this part of the course.
A sufficient command of the chemistry concepts related to the teaching issues addressed during the placements is a prerequisite for obtaining an overall mark of 10/20 or higher.
