Learning unit contents
This course will allow students to integrate knowledge from different Bachelor courses - distinctive and non-distinctive in clinical psychology - into the practice of clinical psychology. They will therefore be led to apprehend their knowledge in a transversal way.
More specifically, students will be led to apply the principles of "Evidence-BasedPractice" in the context of psychological evaluation, thanks to diversified clinical vignettes, taking into account the relational context inherent in any clinical encounter.
Also, certain theoretical notions will be recalled (e.g., problem of cognitive biases, patient-partner paradigm) while others will be taught in detail for the first time (e.g., clinical reasoning in multi/pluri-disciplinary).
More concretely, the course is structured around the following modules (deepened in Part 2 of the course - PSYC5916, in Master 2):
- Clinical psychology today
- Clinical reasoning
- The clinical interview
- The clinical relationship
- Case conceptualization
- Cross-disciplinary practices in clinical psychology

Learning outcomes of the learning unit
- Develop the student's ability to apply an Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) approach in the context of psychological assessment, taking into account the relational context inherent in any clinical encounter.
- Develop the student's capacity for autonomy in the application of this approach.
- Develop the student's ability to make an initial analysis of the results obtained via the evaluations by correctly using the established standards and to have a critical view of the submission of conclusions.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
A good knowledge of statistics and psychometrics is required: it is useful to review the material of your courses in psychostatistics and introduction to the theories and methods of measurement in psychological sciences.
The content of the PSYC1008 course is a basis on which the development of this PSYC5915 course is based. Also, the content of the MOOC "Psychologist and speech therapist: EBP at the service of the patient" is also to be known to fully benefit from the learning of the course PSYC5915.

Practical work sessions and exercice sessions
Attendance is taken during practical work and exercise sessions (in person and/or remotely).
For practical work sessions (supervised by the course instructor and/or clinical psychologists who are instructors in the system), a "green light - orange light - red light" system - referring to a criteria grid - will apply.
> The student whose lights are green continues their training without any adjustments.
> After two orange lights, the student must participate in at least one catch-up session under the supervision of the course instructor. This session may take the form of a clinical exercise or a role-play: the course instructor will assess the student's level of mastery of the skills necessary for the role-play to run smoothly. This session may allow the student to receive a green light and resume their training. If this is not the case, at the very least, a new catch-up exercise will be implemented.
> After a red light, the student must participate in at least one catch-up session under the supervision of the course teacher. This session may take the form of a clinical exercise or a role-play: the course instructor will assess the student's level of mastery of the skills necessary for the role-play to run smoothly. This session may allow the student to receive a green light and resume their training. If this is not the case, at the very least, a new catch-up exercise will be implemented.
Final examination
The final grade is based on a written exam which consists of a first part with closed questions (multiple choice questions or generalised true false questions; out of 20 points) and a second part with open questions (out of 20 points).
To pass the assessment, the student must obtain a minimum grade of 10/20 in each part.
- If the student has participated in at least 80% of the exercise and/or practical sessions, their lowest grade will be increased by one point. Thus, attendance at practical sessions and investment in exercises impacts the grade obtained for this course.
> In case of failure in the first part (closed questions), the second part (QO) will not be corrected by the teacher and a mark of 0/20 will be awarded to this second part. The final mark will correspond to the average between the mark of the first part (QF) and the mark of 0/20. The student will have to represent all the parts in the 2nd session.
> In case of failure only in the second part (QO), the final mark will correspond to this insufficient mark and the student will have to represent all the parts in the 2nd session.
This grading system makes it possible to reflect through the mark the different levels of knowledge among students who have passed or not the first part on the QF.
A group session to consult the copies will be organized upon registration within 15 days following the announcement of the results. The expected answers for the second part (QO) will be explained to the students present at this session. The precise arrangements will be disseminated via eCampus and MyULiège.
