Learning unit contents
The overall objective of the course is to deconstruct some stereotypes associated with the concept of aging. More concretely, various issues related to or associated with normal aging (senescence) are considered, as: (1) the origins and characteristics of the aging population (demographics), (2) the questioning of psychometric model of cognitive decline, (3) the description of some theories explaining how a person adapts to his aging and maintains well-being and a good quality of life, (4) the description of some transitional periods occuring during aging such as retirement, (5) ...

To have some theoritical and methodological basis related to the actual knowledge about normal and pathological aging.

This academic year, the course will mainly take place on campus (and occasionally online if the lecturer is away on an external mission, in which case a podcast will be published on MyULG). When the course is held on campus, it is therefore neither recorded nor made available as a podcast.

The written examination will consist of multiple-choice questions (each with 5 possible answers, plus the options 'all of the above are correct' and 'none of the above are correct').
The grading system includes a penalty for incorrect answers: typically, +1 point is awarded for a correct answer, -0.25 point is deducted for an incorrect answer, and 0 points are given for either no answer or the option 'I don't know.'
Please note that, at the end of each examination session (January or August/September), the level of strictness may be revised downward. This possible adjustment is at the lecturer's discretion and will be based on the observed complexity of the exam and the overall student success rate. As such, the level of strictness may vary from one session to another.
