Course Description
This course aims to:
- introduce students to the specificities of analysis and intervention in family and couple settings;
- present the main theoretical models, methods, and tools for assessing family and couple functioning;
- introduce students to intervention techniques derived from the main approaches in family and couple therapy.
Practical exercises will be conducted to allow students to apply this knowledge through the analysis of clinical cases, role-playing activities, as well as administering and interpreting assessment tools.
Table of Contents
The course will cover, among others, the following topics: 1. Theoretical and conceptual foundations (key definitions and concepts; the question of neutrality in the context of couple and family analysis and intervention); 2. Practical and methodological aspects (methodological guidelines for conducting sessions with couples and families; tools and techniques for the first sessions); 3. Approaches and models (romantic attachment; dimensions of coparenting; dimensions of family functioning); 4. Overview of systemic intervention approaches with individuals, couples, and families.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:
- acquire foundational knowledge of the main family and couple assessment approaches and instruments;
- develop an understanding of the primary family and couple intervention techniques;
- administer family assessment tools and interpret and integrate the results in a written report.

Written work / report
Further information:
The work consists of an individual written report, the evaluation of which will determine the grade for this course. The report will be based on a family assessment exercise and the administration of the tools and instruments presented during the course. Full details will be provided during the first weeks of the course.
