Learning unit contents
Higher Education Pedagogy (HEP) is still a pretty young research field in Belgium. It is, however, enriched by numerous publications, specialized international conferences and a very important reflexive activity
The students will discover, through this course, the specific function of "Developer" (D) in Higher Education.
Please note that this function is to be differentiated from that in the context of primary or secondary education: it is organized through reference grids, activities and missions specific to the context of higher education. It is therefore NOT a question of advising secondary school or university teachers, but of supporting university and university teachers of all disciplines, to foster the learning of their own students, in all types of Bachelors and Masters.
This course offers participants :
- to discover the reality of HE developers through reading and participating in activities and seminars/webinars ;
- to scientifically contribute to the field of HEP, in different ways from year to year.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
Through its learning and evaluation situations, similar to those in which a developer is supposed to act, this course will help prepare students to take on a professional profile as Higher Education developers.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
The "Questions d'Actualité en Pédagogie de l'Enseignement Supérieur" (QAPES) course is highly adviced as a pre-acquired for the participants who don't have any experience as teachers or developers in higher education.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Depending on the number of participants, students will work alone or in small groups, although the first steps of their work will remain individual. They will read several chapters of a reference manual.
In order for them to deepen the topic they have chosen, students will read and document their ideas (articles, conference proceedings, books, professional testimonials, online sites) and participate in counseling activities organized during class sessions.
Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)
Blended learning
Further information:
As some of the activities of this course could be organized online, the exact dates of the synchronous sessions will be specified in the online course space.
Course materials and recommended or required readings
A specific book will be used, from Daele et Sylvestre (2016): « Comment développer le conseil pédagogique dans l'enseignement supérieur ? ».
Other readings will have to be considered, targeting different missions of the developer or different stages of his/her professional development, according to the participants' choices.
