Learning unit contents
Several themes are developed in this course: socio-cognitive approaches to motivation; socio-cognitive interactions (and in particular cooperative learning); socio-cognitive misunderstandings; self-regulation and assessment for learning.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
To understand the theoretical foundations of various types of group work with the aim of identifying the benefits and limitations of each one.
To understand socio-cognitive approaches of motivation in order to identify the variables upon which teachers can act in order to motivate students (and to regulate their motivation)
To understand how some methodological choices can lead to socio-cognitive misunderstandings and they will identify didactic avenues aiming to help pupils to really understand the cognitive challenges of learning and to regulate their learning.
To understand how assessment for learning (which can take the form of peer assessment) can play a role in avoiding or resolving socio-cognitive misunderstandings and supporting cognitive and motivational self-regulation.
To take advantage of the theoretical contributions to analyze teaching practices and to design improvements and/or innovations in teaching.
