Learning unit contents
Part 1 : Internal medicine
Approach to diseases related to occupational and environmental exposure. Approach to risk situations and pathological consequences encountered in internal medicine.
Part V : Protection of pregnant women
The place of work in the lives of pregnant women: historical, social and legal aspects.
Occupational risks for pregnancy and foetal development:
- Environmental agents (ionising radiation, chemical agents, pharmaceuticals, tobacco, drugs, solvents, heavy metals, biological agents).
- Physical agents (heat, noise, electromagnetic fields, postural stress).
Living conditions and pregnancy: physical workload, working hours, night work, fatigue, stress, harassment, sport.
Legal and organisational measures relating to pregnancy: maternity leave, paternity/parenthood, parenthood, breast-feeding.
The role of occupational medicine: prevention, screening, risk assessment and recommendations.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
Part 1 : Internal medicine
Knowledge of occupational diseases in terms of screening, diagnostic approach, and therapeutic management.
Part V : Protection of pregnant women
By the end of the course, students will be able to:
- Identify and analyze the main occupational risks that can affect pregnancy and fetal development.
- Explain the mechanisms of teratogenicity and their critical periods.
- Recognize the impact of physical, chemical, biological, and psychosocial agents on pregnancy.
- Apply the legal basis for the protection of pregnant women at work.
- Recommend appropriate preventive measures in occupational medicine.
- Understand the role of the occupational physician in supporting pregnant workers.

Knowledge of internal medicine consistent with the training received within the framework of the medical master's program.

Basics of pregnancy physiology.
Fundamentals of toxicology, infectious diseases, and occupational health.
