Learning unit contents

The aim of the course is to allow students who did not study Greek in secondary school (or who did so only very briefly) to be introduced to the Greek language. Systematic study of noun and verb morphology and elementary concepts of syntax. Basic vocabulary and exercises of transation from Greek into French and from French into Greek.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

To reach as complete a mastery as possible of the morphology and syntax of Greek, in order to read Greek texts as quickly as possible. To acquire a Greek basic vocabulary.

Additional information:

2 hrs./wk for all the year.

The course includes a theoretical part and a practical part (exercises done in the course). Exercises to prepare at home are corrected and commented in class.

Further information:

Regular quizzes on vocabulary, nominal and verbal morphology, and syntax. Participation in these exercises is mandatory.

Written exam: vocabulary, analysis and translation of verb forms, grammatical sentences (both prose composition and translation), unseen text translation.

Midterm exam (mandatory) at the end of the first semester (January session). Final exam in the June session.

Grading breakdown:

  • Final exam: 60%

  • Midterm exam: 30%

  • Quizzes: 10%


Students enrolled in both course components

The final grade for the 60-hour course (Q1 + Q2, taught by Gabriel Nocchi Macedo) will count for 60% of the overall final grade.
The final grade for the 30-hour course (Q2, taught by Bruno Rochette) will count for 40% of the overall final grade.

Students enrolled only in the 60-hour course (Q1 + Q2)

The final grade for the 60-hour course will count for 100% of the overall final grade.
