Learning unit contents

Advanced study and practical application of methods for deciphering, editing, translating and interpreting Greek and Latin literary and documentary papyri.

Study of the use of papyri as historical and literary sources and on the contribution of papyrology to knowledge of thought, society, culture and daily life in Greco-Roman Antiquity.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

To be able to describe, decipher, translate and comment Greek and Latin literary papyri.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

Knowledge of the Greek and Latin languages.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

To prepare the presentation, translation and commentary of a Greek or Latin papyrus.

Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)

Face-to-face. 30 hours (2 hours a week). 

Course materials and recommended or required readings

Photograph and text of the papyri studied on each course + e-learning (eCampus).

Paper


Paper: presentation, translation, codicological, paleographical, grammatical, and critical commentary of a Greek or Latin papyrus. The paper should be submitted in print or PDF on the last day of class. It counts for 100% of the final grade.
