Learning unit contents

In general, this course unit should enable S4-S5 students to understand the path taken by students entering the fourth year of secondary school, in order to facilitate the articulation and transition between the core curriculum and upper secondary school.

To do this, students will learn about the objectives of the core curriculum (both general and specific to their discipline), with the dual aim of identifying breaks and continuities in the curricula and building their professional identity.

The content covered will come from three main sources:
- practical experience (based on observations made by each student in nursery, primary, and lower secondary school or provided by the teacher, particularly through video recordings)
- legal requirements (reference frameworks)
- subject-specific teaching methods.

The aim will be to identify the learning achieved-in the discipline-throughout the core curriculum, as well as the learning challenges encountered by students at different stages of their journey in this school subject. Particular attention will be paid to the acquisition of skills/abilities, the conceptualization of certain key concepts in the subject, the teaching materials provided, and how they are supported by the teacher throughout the school year.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

At the end of this course, students will be able to:

- analyze the evolution of disciplinary concepts through reference frameworks;
- analyze the evolution of students' level of conceptualization throughout their schooling and the consequences of this evolution on teaching methods;
- analyze the acquired potential and learning difficulties of a high school student in light of the tools discussed during the course unit and take them into account.
