Learning unit contents

In general, this course unit is designed to help S4-S5 students understand the learning trajectories of pupils entering the fourth year of secondary school, in order to facilitate articulation and transition at the interface between the Common Core and upper secondary education.

To this end, students will examine the objectives of the Common Core-both general and subject-specific-with the dual aim of identifying discontinuities and continuities across curricula and developing their professional identity.

The course content will be based on three main sources:

  • Field practices (drawn from each student's observations in preschool, primary, and lower secondary education, or provided by the instructor, notably through video recordings);
  • Legal frameworks (reference documents);
  • Subject-specific didactics.
The aim is to identify the learning outcomes achieved within the discipline throughout the Common Core, as well as the learning difficulties encountered by pupils at different stages of their progression. Particular attention will be paid to skill acquisition, the conceptualization of key disciplinary notions, the didactic materials employed, and the ways in which teachers scaffold learning throughout the educational process.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

At the end of this course unit, the student will be able to:

  • analyze the evolution of disciplinary concepts through the reference frameworks;
  • analyze the evolution of students' levels of conceptual understanding throughout their schooling and the consequences of this evolution on teaching methods;
  • analyze the potential achievements and learning difficulties of an upper secondary school student in light of the tools covered during the course unit and take them into account.
