Learning unit contents
The course aims to teach students how to format and structure a corpus (sources, texts, objects), in order to treat it quantitatively to answer one or several questions.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
Being able to go from source to data using the following modelization operations :
- parsing to relevant semantic units in a nomenclature
- structuration into relationships of different informational units
- technical implementation of the database conntaining these units
- data export and harnessing to answer the initial question(s)
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
Skills and knowledge from a bachelor's degree in social sciences and/or humanities
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Ex cathedra introductory lessons about the relevant elements (concepts, tools, languages, examples) used for the final assignment
Collective modelization of the provided material
Supervized assignment, where students, alone or in group (depending on the numbers), implement the collective modelization on a computer.
Distribution of the corpus between students
Presentation and collective discussion about each assignment
