Learning unit contents

This course offers a professional scenario. Through a case study, we will trace the different steps of an excavation, from its preparation to its publication. We will therefore look at:

The general context of archaeology, particularly in Wallonia, the state of the art and preliminary research prior to fieldwork, prospecting, excavation, recording and surveying techniques, databases, post-excavation work, specialised studies, reports and publications.

Various presentations by archaeologists will be offered, as well as visits to several sites currently undergoing excavation.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

In-depth study of archaeological excavation techniques.

Preparation for conducting archaeological excavations, from putting together an application file to post-excavation analysis.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

Have completed a course on excavation techniques at bachelor's level.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Theoritical courses, lectures, visists of archaeological sites in current excavations.
