Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program

Learning unit contents

The course focuses on assessing the structural, energy and environmental performance of buildings. Structural mechanics and building physics are studied in order to verify the stability of the structure and control the indoor climate while limiting energy expenditure. The environmental aspects of building materials and the building's use phase are assessed in order to minimise their environmental impact throughout their life cycle, thereby contributing to sustainable design.

The theoretical aspects are implemented through structural and energy modelling of the building and life cycle analysis (LCA), with the application of LCA methodologies specifically adapted to buildings.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

  • Selecting and dimensioning structural elements for a building;
  • Selecting and dimensioning heating and air conditioning equipment;
  • Understanding the physical quantities and phenomena at work within buildings;
  • Modelling load transfer through the structure;
  • Modelling the physical processes involved in the building;
  • Design an energy-efficient infrastructure;
  • Assess the sustainability of a building, according to the Life Cycle Thinking framework;
  • Carry out an environmental audit or energy certification.
