Schedule
Units courses prerequisite and corequisite
Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program
Learning unit contents
This course integrates various geomatics methods and techniques (topometry, topography, observation theory, GNSS, photogrammetry, laser scanning, GIS, etc.) through a series of practical sessions organized into several integrated operational blocks.
Each block enables students to apply and deepen their skills on a specific aspect of geomatics surveying, including traversing, detailed surveys, and leveling, as well as data processing and analysis, culminating in the production of synthesized deliverables such as maps, GIS files, and/or technical reports.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
At the end of this course, the student will be able to carry out, in a largely autonomous manner, a basic surveying mission using multiple geomatics techniques and to produce plans, GIS files, or other geospatial representations, as well as technical reports.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
- Courses of surveying, GNSS, Obsevation Theory, GIS, CAD, photogrammetry and laser scanning
- Use of spreadsheets and developpment of programming scripts
- Use of word processing softwares
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The teaching unit is based on a practical and professional approach, structured into several blocks of fieldwork sessions and data processing activities.
Students will engage in fieldwork sessions and data processing activities to develop operational skills in geomatics. Whenever possible, these activities will take place within a company or a division of a company specializing in topographic surveys.
The activities include:
- Fieldwork sessions to enhance professional skills in basic topometric, topographic, GNSS, and leveling measurements, along with a specific task (related or unrelated to previous blocks) defined with the host company.
- Processing and analysis of collected data, using professional software and/or development of custom scripts to apply least squares method.
- Production of deliverables summarizing the results, including maps, reports, and/or GIS files.
Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)
Face-to-face course
Course materials and recommended or required readings
Platform(s) used for course materials:
- Microsoft Teams
Further information:
No course materials will be provided, as this course is primarily practical and relies on the theoretical and practical knowledge gained in previous geomatics courses.
A Teams channel will be made available for general communications and for submitting the final report.
Written work / report
Work placement(s)
Dans la mesure du possible, les activités se dérouleront au sein d'une entreprise ou d'une division spécialisée dans les relevés topographiques.
Organisational remarks and main changes to the course
The course will be managed in English and, whenever possible, the activities will take place within a company or a division specializing in topographic surveys.
Interactions and work with the host company will be conducted in French.
The final report may also be written in French.
