Learning unit contents

Among the four courses offered as part of this certificate, one is a 30-hour module entitled "Sexual and Domestic Violence: Dynamics, Challenges, and Interventions."

Sexual violence  (including that which occurs within the family) affects all societies, regardless of age or gender, and transcends social and cultural boundaries. In Belgium, epidemiological data confirm a troubling prevalence, making it a major public health and human rights issue.

This course pursues two main objectives:

  • To understand the different forms of sexual and domestic violence, their dynamics, their social determinants, and their physical, psychological, and social consequences - both for the victims and for their relatives and communities.

  • To examine existing intervention mechanisms: judicial and psychosocial responses, prevention initiatives, public policies, and legislative frameworks. Particular attention will be paid to the importance of interdisciplinarity in the care and support of victims, in order to promote a coordinated response adapted to the complexity of the situations encountered.
