Learning outcomes of the learning unit
This course offers an in-depth study of building techniques related to the performance of the building envelope and certain associated energy systems.
The course covers the following topics:
- The energy balance of a building;
- Energy regulations;
- Evaluation of occupant comfort;
- Air infiltration, condensation, and water vapor transfer in buildings.
- Understand the various techniques related to building envelopes and energy systems;
- Acquire the necessary skills to select the most appropriate construction techniques for a given project;
- Be capable of conducting a preliminary energy design of a building;
- Calculate and measure heat transfer through a building component;
- Be familiar with current standards (e.g., PEB) and be able to design an architectural project in compliance with them.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Activities: theoretical lectures, practical work, and construction site or project visit.
Mode of delivery (face to face, distance learning, hybrid learning)
Face-to-face course
Further information:
The course follows a hybrid blended learning approach, which offers a good balance between various learning methods and pedagogical approaches to achieve the educational objectives.
In-person sessions from September to December: ex cathedra lectures and practical work (TP).
Assessment methods: written exam and continuous project evaluation throughout the term.

Further information:
Exam(s) in session
Any session
- In-person
oral exam
Continuous assessment
Additional information:
The assessment includes:
-a written exam (open book) on the theoretical course, for 50% of the final grade. -the scoring of practical work, for 50% of the final grade. Students who have not completed all compulsory activities may not be admitted to the exam (if an exam is organized). The absence of compulsory duty does not allow a quantified evaluation of the student's work. An "A" grade is therefore awarded in this case (unless there is a specific justification examined with fairness by the teacher and accepted by the latter).
