Units courses prerequisite and corequisite

Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program

Learning unit contents

The course consists of two parts. The first reviews major developments in social science thinking about capitalism since Marx. Building on a critique of this intellectual tradition, the second part offers fresh insights on capitalism by studying the work that anthropologists have carried out on various interrelated themes such as work, corporations, markets, property, or money.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

The aim of the course is to lay the ground for an anthropology of capitalism. At the end of the course students will be able to present how capitalism has been studied by anthropologists, and propose research directions for analyzing the dynamics of capitalism from an anthropological perspective.
