Units courses prerequisite and corequisite

Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program

Learning unit contents

A review of the basic concepts of aquatic ecosystem ecology will be provided and adapted according to the students' background. The biology of the main planktonic groups/species generally used in aquaculture will be discussed in detail. The techniques for producing planktonic organisms in mass will be taught, with their technical and socio-economic pros and cons. Future production potential developmens  will also be reviewed.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

At the end of this teaching unit, the student will be able to understand the factors that condition the production of phyto- and zooplanktonic organisms. He/she will have acquired the necessary knowledge concerning the biology of these organisms to understand the constraints and major assets of the different types of organisms most used in aquaculture production.

The student will be able to understand the technical aspects and certain economic aspects relating to the different methods of mass production of planktonic organisms.
