Learning unit contents

Discussion of the work of the expressionist poet Paul van Ostaijen, one of the most influential voices in 20th-century Dutch literature.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

Extending the knowledge of the political, historical and cultural context of modern Dutch literature.

Developing the students' capacity to undertake a close reading of the selected texts.

Developing the students' analytical and reflective skills.

Refining their command of Dutch.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

A good command of written and spoken Dutch.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Introduction to Van Ostaijen's life and work. Analysis of a number of key texts, followed by public discussions.
