Learning unit contents
Simultaneous interpretation from FR into DE: initiation through DE-DE exercises, then we will move on to general FR-DE texts and, over the course of the year, increase the length of the speeches and finally move on to more specialised speeches as of February.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
The aim of the simultaneous interpreting course in MA2 is to familiarise students with specific terminology relating to specific subjects. The exercises organised in the second term will complement the more general simultaneous interpreting course in the first term. Students will be encouraged to prepare a meeting on a specialised subject in terms of vocabulary and content, to ask themselves the right questions and to develop their analytical skills. The intercultural aspect of languages also plays a role, as does authenticity and fluency. The texts and simulations will be tailored to real-life interpreting situations and needs, with German considered to be the students' C language.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
Good command of the German language, (idiomatic) expressions, specific vocabulary, fluency and authenticity of expression. Have passed the MA1 interpreting exams.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Interpreting exercises, targeted preparation for topics/meetings, oral expression, tenacity, terminology work.

Additional information:
The performance will be assessed on faithful reproduction of the source text, mastery of the German language (grammar, fluency, authenticity of expression, wealth of terminology), analysis of the source text and communication (intonation, conveying the message and style of the text). We also check that students have assimilated the subjects covered during the year and kept up to date with current events. Stress management will also be taken into account.
Work placement(s)
Yes, internships and work placements are compulsory and essential for good progress. Wherever possible, teachers will try to take students to meetings. However, students are also asked to find placements on their own initiative.
