Learning unit contents

This course explores the concepts and theories of strategic management in the context of enterprises that pay specific attention to the social and environmental dimensions of their activities.

Learning outcomes of the learning unit

In consistence with the KLO of  the Master  in management, this course allows the student to reinforce its capacity to strategize, to communicate it and to adapt its management practices to the specificities of social enterprises.

It allows the student to:

  • Understand the strategic management concepts
  • Learn to use theories and tools to analyze the strategy of a social enterprise
  • Know the strategy process steps and identify the theories and tools to apply in practice
  • Be able to compare different corporate stratagies

Prerequisite knowledge and skills

In principle, students must have completed the course of "Entreprises sociales et business lodels durables" or - at least - have followed an introductory course related to social economy and / or sustainable development.
Students must be able to understand French and English.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Presentation of strategic management theories détailled in the « guide de la gestion stratégique des entreprises sociales » par M. Boving

Active participation of students during the présentation

  • Exercices to be done in groups
  • Regular revision sessions
Study cases : social diversity in Food cooperatives

  • Review od tools and théories to apply
  • Diagnosis of the case issue
  • Identification of possible solutions based on the analysis of référence enterprises

The evaluation will focus on:

  • The general individual attitude of the student during the proposed learning path : 20%
  • The individual appropriation of conceptual and theoretical resources provided (oral exam) : 40%
  • The quality of the strategic analysis during the study case (oral exam) : 40%
