Learning unit contents
The aim of this course is to provide a better understanding of the psychopathological disorders most frequently encountered in n the child and adolescent clinic.
Initially, the general question of diagnosis in children will be addressed, through the introduction of the best-known nosographies and discussion of the limits and strengths of catechorical diagnosis.
This approach will be contrasted with the dimensional approach to disorder description, to enable the student to adopt both reading grids with ease.
This will be followed by a review of the most common disorders.
Particular emphasis will be placed on epidemiological and cohort studies/ This approach will make the student aware of the importance of a preventive vision in the child and adolescent clinic.
Theoretical sessions will be alternated with practical exercises, in which students will be trained to identify sympthoms, make diagnoses and practice clinical reasoning.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
Students will learn to understand and recognize infant and juvenile psychopathologies according to a nosographic and developmental approach, and with critical awareness.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills
The student is expected to possess notions of cognitive and behavioral psychology, of neuropsychology and developmental psychology.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Ex-cathedra classes enriched by various contributions: slides, clinical vignettes, examples from clinical practice with children.
Student participation will be particularly encourageded. Students will be invited to analyze cases, discuss in small groups and share their thoughts with the rest of the class.

The course will be mainly face-to-face. Some content will be acquired independently by students on the basis of readings provided by the instructor, and then discussed in class, in a flipped classroom approach.
