Learning unit contents
The theoretical, neurobiological and clinical aspects of the different (neuro)developmental and children neuropsychological disorders will be examined. The class will examine the disorders and developmental difficulties of the different cognitive functions (memory, attention, executive functions, visuo-motor functions, social cognition) and associated syndromes. The main syndromes that will be presented are: 1) genetic syndromes (Fragile-X syndrome, 22q11.2 microdeletion syndrome, Down syndrome, ...), 2) developmental disorders (autism, dyscalculia, dyspraxia, ADHD, ...), 3) acquired disorders (traumatic brain injury, encephalitis, ...), 4) epileptic syndromes.
Learning outcomes of the learning unit
The student will get familiarized with the main cognitive disorders and syndromes encountered in neuropsychological and neuropeditric settings. They will be able to formulate hypotheses about diagnosis and treatement based on the complaints and the observed cognitive profile.
