Learning unit contents
-Main ethical principles of animal experimentation in the fields of biological psychology and neuroscience. -Relationship between the reliability and credibility of scientific results and proper care practices in the context of a humane animal husbandry. -Analysis of a few papers dealing with the notions of pain, suffering and well-being in animals from a neurobehavioural empirical (and possibly philosophical) point of view. -Specific experimental designs, appropriate statistical methods and particular strategies (ex. adequate choice of the animal strain) aiming at reducing net animal suffering during testing without geopardizing the validity of the results and the inferential power. -Relationship between the housing complexity and the most representative somatic, cognitive and behavioural measures in the main laboratory animal species.

-Basic knowledge in biopsychology, genetics and behavioural statistics.
